It’s officially beach season – my favorite time of year. I’m lucky enough to live on the coast, just a short drive to my choice of many beautiful beaches. I love and cherish my Saturdays when husband is working and I can spend the day at the beach. This summer I plan to soak up all the sun I can and swim as much as possible. That said, I still haven’t been in the water, as I’m in New England and it’s still pretty chilly here.
I’ve been busy taking photos and designing and creating. These are the things that make me happy. I love turning photos into art and then into useful items. I’ve got a few collections up on Society 6. Here are some of my favorite new beachy items:
I also designed some shoes! They’re unisex, made in Italy and I’m excited to reach 7 pre-orders so I can get my first pair. I also wanted to get husband a matching pair! If you’re so inclined, you can also design your own pair. But I am thrilled with the versatility – classic slip-ons in muted neutrals pair with everything and are super comfy! And they make a great beach or travel shoe.
So, I wanted to share some of the companies I promote – some are paid and some are not – but the bottom line is, they are companies I choose to support and promote because I like what they’re doing. Sandcloud is one of these. 10% of their products proceeds go to saving marine life. As a beach person, protecting the life in our oceans and keeping our oceans alive is important to me. I also love this hoodie – it’s perfect for those chilly, New England beach days or nights. But they have beautiful towels, and more beachy gear.
Athia Skin Care is a line of skin products made for the active woman. I’m a semi-active woman. I’d like to be more active, but what sold me on these products is:
- Natural ingredients
- Made in the USA
- Cruelty free
… And…She’s the first.
This organization works to provide girls all around the world with an education so not only can they be the first in their family to go to and graduate school, but also make an impact on the world. This organization not only provides scholarships for education, but also focuses on community involvement to develop global citizens that will make a positive impact in the world. A portion of every Athia skincare order goes towards providing opportunities for these girls.
Savage X Fenty and Fenty Beauty – I support these companies because they design for ALL woman – all body types, all skin colors. It’s important to not feel left out because you’re not a five foot ten inch size 2 white blonde chic. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! But the majority of women out there are not that and shouldn’t be made to feel like they’re not sexy or beautiful.
So, if you’re going to shop, be mindful. And if you’re really trying to be mindful about consuming (something I struggle with), shop vintage/thrift/antique.
And go to the beach! There’s nothing more relaxing and replenishing than a day spent outside, soaking up (safe) sun and salt water. And if you need a good book, try Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.
