5 Friday Fayevs – March 16

5 Friday Fayevs – March 16

Last week was so crazy busy at work, that I didn’t post at all. I had to work on Saturday, but work is not work at all when it involves wining and dining and entertaining lovely fellow bloggers at such locations as Ocean House and Matunuck Oyster Bar. I can’t complain. Life is good and work is a pleasure. But it still keeps me busy enough that I didn’t post. Of course, my latest TV obsession that I’m late to the game for is sapping up all my free time. I have to admit, I’m obsessed with Pretty Little Liars. How did I miss this show? I’ve got 7 seasons to watch and I’m hooked.

Anyway, it was an eventful week and here are my 5 Fayevs:

Moroccan Oil Shimmering Body Oil

I cannot wait for summertime to slather this all over me so I shimmer in the sun. It smells divine like all their products and offers a subtle golden glow with a soft shimmer in the right light. It looks great on your legs.

Salon Stella

I got my hair done last weekend. I’m growing it back out, but decided I need to give the blow dryer a rest and add some choppy layers so that it will curl enough when left alone. We also darkened the roots and added more natural blonde highlights. I go to Salon Stella right across the street from my house. My hair dresser is Tiffany and she’s been doing a great job.

Matunuck Oyster Bar

I find myself here a lot. It’s by far the most popular restaurant in our part of Rhode Island. The true farm-to-table experience sells it. Owner Perry Raso harvests the oysters served at the restaurant from the pond just outside. He’ll even give you a tour, weather and schedule permitting of the oyster farm and explain the benefits of sustainable aquaculture. He also grows scallops. And just a short boat ride down the pond is his vegetable farm where he grows all the vegetables served at the restaurant. The food is always fresh and delicious, service has always been exceptional and my new obsession is the lobster bisque decorated with beet puree.

Wine Classes at Ocean House

One of the things I got to experience along with the travel bloggers I was hosting last weekend was a wine education class at the Ocean House. Led by their new sommelier, Erin Swain, who is fun, super knowledgeable, extremely approachable and also super cool – she’s a surfing, female sommelier who doesn’t come off as a wine snob. We had fun sniffing, tasting and identifying notes in the different wines. I’m not that great at it yet, but I know what I like. These classes are open to the public, even if you’re not a guest at the hotel and I highly recommend them. The setting is small and intimate and the chefs and sommeliers are fun and personable.

Calavares Mexican Taqueria

My husband and I both love Mexican cuisine. There’s a few good places in the area, but this one has blown us away and we are hooked. Tonight will be the second night this week that I’m bringing home takeout from here. It’s fresh, authentic, healthy Mexican cuisine and the recipes are inspired by the owner’s mother’s recipes. If you’re in South County, RI and looking for some Mexican food, this is the place. There’s not much room for dining in, but get it to go and head to the beach for a picnic in the summertime.
