Now that the holidays are over it’s definitely time to get back in gear, eating healthy, working out, planning for the future. Here are some things to help you get through January. From pop culture icons passing away, to new workout gear, from healthy recipes to reducing your carbon footprint. Read more below.
Is it me, or did this week seem to last forever? I was ready for Friday on Tuesday! Anyway, we are in the midst of January and it is a long month. Here’s some interesting things to read and contemplate.
Start off the year getting in shape with new gear from Athleta. Here’s a code for 20% off one item: AP192CA4T2
Or get my favorite new Fabletics outfit by Kelly Rowland pictured left, and get a free pair of leggings with any purchase over $69.
Last week Elizabeth Wurtzel passed away. She was a big thing in my generation – the author of Prozac Nation which the movie Girl Interrupted was based on. It was the 90s and it seemed every girl was cutting herself and depressed and/or had an eating disorder. Wurtzel was a smart woman, but also a self-destructive one. I guess I was always fascinated by those women that could just live and do as they pleased and not care what anyone thought of them. I was never free in the ways women like Wurtzel were, perhaps that’s how most of us are, but we were sure fascinated. Anyway, her death at 52 pretty much shocked me and sent me back to a self-reflective time. It’s interesting what she accomplished, despite her self-destructive tendencies. Read the last article she wrote for New York Magazine. And watch out for the next Wurtzel, Caroline Calloway…maybe not as self destructive, but just as smart and just as fascinating.
Kat Von D is out at her make-up company Kat Von D Beauty so if you had a problem with her anto-vaccination position and reported anti-semitism you can now feel free to shop the make-up line which is vegan and cruelty-free.
If you, like me, are looking to reduce your carbon footprint this year (one of my goals) and one way is to consider consuming less and shopping less, ThredUp has a new Fashion Footprint Calculator that will calculate your carbon footprint based on your clothes shopping habits. Try it out! You might be surprised. I was sure I was single-handedly destroying the planet, but my footprint is 58% lower than the average consumer.
